Het Wenneker, Schiedam

The municipality of Schiedam has assigned Royal Haskoning to perform an extensive feasibility study on the redevelopment of the Wenneker building. One of the options appeared to be to have the additions clearly distinguished from the original structure that served as a liquor factory. Thus creating a creative and intriguing new building that shows both history and progress.

The new Wenneker building will then hold a multifunctional theatre stage, a movie theatre for the cultural movie cooperation, teaching spaces for the theatre school ‘De Teerstoof’, an exposition hall for the visual arts department, a Tango-dance facility and studios for artists. It is completed with a restaurant. One of the special design features is the multimedia wall coming out of the new façade. The wall creates open communication with the city.
