DaVinci, Alphen a/d Rijn
Retail in reeds
Between railway line, retail area and park strip sits a prominent building, containing 6.000 m2 furniture stores around an atrium, 58 luxury apartments and a parking garage for 100 cars.
From a height of 35 metres, visible through long vistas along Alphen’s axes, the building drops in an elegant curve down to the surrounding building heights.
A façade, made out of aluminum strips, that connects and separates, covers and unveils, shelters and shades, wraps around the various functions like a semi transparent fringe of reeds. The hollow interior façade, as a contrast, opens towards the sun and generates a sense of community.
