Centrum Mechanische Constructies
Laboratorium for TNO Construction
A sober, but articulated volume, evoking the variety as well as the secret nature of the building functions. The building mass is typified by a barely noticeable division into three connected spaces; the large test bench hall, a smaller switch room and the vertical arrangement of calibration, storage and technical rooms. The material envelope echoes the emphasis on symbolism and secrecy. The volume is wrapped in a mix of veils and closed gates. A hint of internal activities can be noticed through the high level window on Schoemakerstraat. The frosted glass suggests shapes of the activities behind. Entrances to the building are hidden behind wooden panels in a style similar to a hidden cave.
