Prins Bernhard Bridge Zaanstad
A multi layered crossing
The Prins Bernhard Bridge is one of the most important links in Zaanstad. It is the first contact with the river Zaan. At the highest point of the bridge an extensive view across the water. The bridge provides one of the few connections between east and west, between people, neighborhoods, schools and shops on both sides of the Zaan. The Prins Bernhard Bridge is significant to its functional importance.
The dual symbolism of the bridge as entrance and important link has been integrated in the design. The striking profile of the two high counterweights gives the bridge it’s monumental character. The color of the bridge is inspired by the typically Dutch green white painted wooden houses; white with a touch of Zaan.
