The World’s Lighthouse – Porta Mundi
A few kilometers offshore Dubai coastline the land claiming The World Islands, a project first of its kind.
Nakheel asked Royal Haskoning Architects to design an iconic and esthetically impressive structure able to stand above the lighthouses designed so far.
Inspired by the unordinary location, the strong contrast between the roughness of the water breaker's stones and the purity of space between sea and sky, Porta Mundi represents a dynamic and simple gesture to this purity.
It’s the tallest structure on the islands and it will define, together with its twin on the opposite of the reef’s arm. Achieving such architectonical design in the time and budget frame Royal Haskoning has approached the project from every discipline keeping a total control on the design process.
