Bridge crossing the old Harbour of Venlo

Second prize architecture selection

The prominent location of the bridge requires a strong design, the new bridge as a symbol for the new identity Venlo. All structural elements are located below the bridge deck such that the sight over the harbor remains open.

The shape is determined by folded planes. This results in various structural elements which are connected in a natural way and results in a much slimmer look of the bridge. The folded deck and pillars provide a spectacular view from lower quays and park. On deck, the folding principle is seen in the meander of the bridge edge. Creating quiet places where the view can be enjoyed. At one of these places, stairs offer a connection between the bridge and the lower levels of the harbour.
